Caffeine increases alertness by blocking adenosine from attaching to brain receptors (in simple words, adenosine makes you sleepy).
Once your body has metabolized that caffeine and its effects wear off, that adenosine floods brain receptors making you feel sleepy, even if it's in the middle of the afternoon. This is called the caffeine crash (aka afternoon slump).

To get rid of caffeine crash, moderation is the key. Switching to half-regular and half-decaf, then gradually moving into 100% decaf over three to seven days makes the weaning process more bearable.

Herbal teas are made from tisanes, which are blends or infusions of dried fruits, flowers, spices or herbs.

Herbal teas are also known as herbal infusions and are less commonly called tisanes.
